At the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains lies the scenic town of Crozet in Albemarle County, Virginia. This city, named after Colonel Claudius Crozet, was formerly known as Wayland’s Crossing. With a relatively small population, the main attraction of Crozet has been its natural scenery. Albemarle has named Crozet as one of the county’s three “growth areas,” and this is evident in the large amounts of new construction that are currently taking place.
The schooling in this area is taken care of primarily by Crozet Elementary School, Brownsville Elementary School, J.T. Henley Middle School, and Western Albemarle High School. The Jefferson Madison Regional Library System has a branch in Crozet and is located in a railway depot originally built for the Virginia Central railroad. With the growing population, so must grow the infrastructure, and the library is slated to be expanded in the near future.
Eating out certainly does not pose a problem. There is a good variety of restaurants in the vicinity, Crozet Pizza being the most notable. Residents affectionately call the one intersection in town “Downtown Crozet,” and it boasts live music on weekends, top notch dining, and all the amenities needed for daily use.
The recreational options in this area are many. Visitors and residents thrive on outdoor activities with the Blue Ridge Mountains making for a beautiful background. There are several parks spread throughout the area including, Crozet Park and Mint Spring Valley park. The former is a 22-acre space housing baseball and soccer fields, swimming pools, and lots of playgrounds. This park sees a number of sports organizations and locals who frequent it throughout the year for practice, play, or leisure. The Mint Springs Valley Park has a land area of over 500 acres. Besides three lakes with plenty of fishing, it also has numerous hiking trails offering splendid views of the surrounding area. The park also has an artificial beach, which is open between Labor Day and Memorial Day, complete with lifeguards.
Independence Day is celebrated with a lot of grandeur in Crozet. A parade, a carnival and fireworks mark celebrations. Events such as the Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival, celebrated on Mother’s Day weekend, provide a source of entertainment for the residents.
A quaint and tranquil lifestyle has generally been the forte of the Crozet real estate market. However in recent years with the increase in developments in housing, this place has become quite a busy area. The developments in real estate will continue to rise as there is a large amount of undeveloped land nearby, so there is no better time than the present to fall in love with Crozet.
