Ivy is located just west of the City of Charlottesville, in Virginia’s Albemarle County. While there are no firm lines that define the area of Ivy, most residents would agree that the majority of Murray Elementary and Meriwether Lewis Elementary school districts lie in the Ivy area. Northern portions of Meriwether Lewis are in the Free Union area.
Due to this advantageous position, Ivy benefits from all the enviable and attractive features of the county, namely rolling terrain, easy access to Highway 250 and I-64, and large homesites.
There is a diverse range of activities to choose from whether recreational, historic or cultural. Job opportunities exist mostly in the city of Charlottesville, as well as the northern corridor of 29 and the Pantops area of Albemarle. Many people who work in Waynesboro, Staunton, or other points west, choose to live in Ivy due to its favorable location.
Ivy is a quiet hamlet that is mostly housing and some remaining agricultural properties. Originally centered on the Ivy Depot, the intersection of 250, Owensville, and Ivy Depot remain the only area zoned for business. This intersection is home to one of the area’s great restaurants, Duners. Wine connoisseurs can revel in this part of the county, as there are several wineries in close proximity to Ivy.
Nature lovers are sure to love Ivy with its access to wonderful national parks, forests, and local clubs. Such parks include: The Ragged Mountain Natural Area and Beaver Creek Lake Park. Ivy is also home to great golf courses and clubs: Birdwood - the golf course to The University of Virginia, Boar’s Head Sports Club, and Farmington Country Club. Many equestrian activities take place here, the largest of which are steeplechases held at Foxfield twice a year. The area is blessed with natural scenic beauty and enjoys a temperate climate with four distinct seasons.
